St Anne's

St Anne'sSt Anne's
History
It is likely that William Tappin designed this additional building and it was added in 1905. The original building had an unusually narrow footprint – suggesting its original purpose was to make the Magdalen Asylum more secure.
Modifications were made in 1964 to enlarge the building and the alterations dramatically altered the building’s original character.  A new roof and windows were added – making it look like a suburban villa of the 1950s.
It was used as a cooking and typing school and provided additional shelter for the penitents who were confined to the Magdalen Asylum.
Proposed use
As a building, St Anne’s is in relatively good condition although it has to be fire sprinkled before it can be occupied.  The training kitchen facility is still in situ so it would be logical to consider using this room for its original use to teach community members cooking and nutrition skills. The other rooms can again be used as community training facilities.
