History
Thomas Kelly designed this building and it was constructed in 1879. It was a co-educational school for children from the local community. It is the only building on site that has direct access to ‘the outside world’. In 1873, the government withdrew state funding for religious schools and so the Sisters established a Catholic day school for children from Abbotsford.
The school occupied the two large rooms on the ground floor whilst upstairs were dormitories for girls from the Industrial School.
Present use
The classical community radio station, 3MBS has long been keen to become a Convent tenant. With over 150 volunteers and a charter that sees them broadcasting 24/7, they are a logical addition to the site. They have constructed state of the art studios and an audio library in the St Euphrasia building, as well as dedicated facilities for their staff and volunteers.
