Wendy Golden -

In my basketry practice vessels, sculptural work and large scale installations all have a place.  I find inspiration in the materials I use and the environment in which they are found.  Research into the indigenous and introduced plants I use has been an integral part of my work.

My work has been in many group exhibitions and I’ve undertaken private commissions and large scale public work like the screen at ACMI in Federation Square.  Passing on skills by teaching in schools, forums and small classes is a particularly enjoyable aspect of my work.

Throughout my basketry career, I have worked for many community groups and festivals.  In the last few years I have been an installation artist for several Textile Fibre Forums, Artist in Residence at MLC, Open Bench at Craft Victoria and have been an installation artist at Darwin Art Gallery/ Museum complex.

During 2005 I mentored an emerging artist under the auspices of the Australia Council and Territory Craft.

Plans for this year include teaching in Adelaide and Shepparton and developing my work for a solo exhibition.  Some of my work is currently touring Australia in ‘Woven Forms’ an exhibition showcasing contemporary basket making in Australia.  Craft Victoria generally stocks some of my work or you could visit my web site at www.wendygolden.com to see some of my earlier work………h’mm perhaps I could devote some time to upgrading this site.  I also write a regular column for Textile Fibre Forum Magazine.
