Jess Hall

Jess Hall is an artist working with watercolour and oils.  Swarm paintings depict imaginative hybrids, which emerge from layers of oil paint.  Botanical specimens are collected locally and arranged and painted as botanical portraits.  These invented forms are reminiscent of a past era of wonder and exploration, and are inspired by the whimsy and fantastical elements in the work of Giuseppe Arcimboldo and Hieronymus Bosch.  

Jess completed first class Honours at Queensland College of Art and relocated to Melbourne in 2006 where she completed the Masters in Fine Art at Victorian College of the Arts and Music.  Jess’ work has been purchased for public collections and has also featured in numerous art prizes, group and solo exhibitions.
