Laundries
Built in the 1880s and modified in 1905, 1907 and in the 1920s, the laundries are of interest for their refined design and detailing, such as the impressive roof monitors and elaborate Wunderlich pressed metal ceilings, unusal for a late 19th century buliding associated with the industrial process.
The laundries seviced many businesses around Melbourne, including hospitals, the Victorian Railway, the Windsor Hotel, wealthy households, and ships visiting the city. The Abbotsford Convent was, in its day, one of the largest laundries in Victoria.
It is anticipated that after restoration the laundries will house physical theatre.
