Community Room and Linen Room
Available during daytime hours only
The Community and Linen Room is a multi-functional space with the ability to be seperated into two rooms via original grand timber bi-fold doors.
The unique Gothic character, decorative timber-work, marble fireplaces and views of the formal garden will make your conference or formal gathering a special experience.
History of the Community Room and Linen Room
When the Good Shepherd Order had the Convent building constructed in 1901, this large space was actually used for two separate purposes. The room overlooking the formal gardens was the Sisters’ Community Room – a space where they congregated at the end of each long day. The furniture in the Community Room was sparse and the atmosphere was quiet and reserved. The timber is unusual in that it was hand stained to take on the appearance of wood grain.
The room next door was originally the Linen Room, where two Sisters always worked full time to meet the demands for linen and toiletries to service the hundreds of residents across the site. The Sisters’ Library was in the room next door to the Linen Room.
When LaTrobe University managed the site in the late 70s and beyond, both spaces were in fact used as a Library.
