Mary Symes

MARY SYMES is a dream counsellor bringing to her dream work an interest in astrology, mythology and C.G. Jung’s approach to the unconscious and imaginal realms.  She conducts on-going dream discussion groups at the Chiron Centre including an astrological dream group and also offers individual dream work sessions.  Mary has often lectured to the C.G. Dream Work with Mary Symes

A dream discussion group provides a container in which an individual has the opportunity to explore the dream world with a small number of people, on a weekly basis.  The group itself is on-going with a maximum of 8 participants, each of whom is asked to commit themselves for a term of 10 weeks at a time.  The groups follow the Government school year and do not meet during school holidays.  This commitment to the group enables trust and confidentiality to be built up so that a safe place is provided for the dream to be heard and discussed.  It also establishes a "library" of shared dreams which becomes a very valuable resource and reference point.  We learn so much about ourselves from seeing the reflections in other people's dreams.

Only one dream per week is discussed, however the beginning of each session is given over to the previous week's dreamer and anything that may have flowed on from the dream or the group discussion of that dream.  The aim of the discussion is to let the dream breathe, to let the dreamer associate and connect with the dream images and story.  As listeners we hold, connect, and reflect.  We note where the dream takes us, how our body is reacting, where the energy is.  We are then able to bring these reflections/thoughts/feelings into the discussion of the dream story.

To Join a Group

The Dream Discussion Groups are on-going so entry into a group depends upon a space becoming available.  Some experience of dream work is therefore a prerequisite.  This experience can be gained by undertaking some individual dream work to become familiar with your dreaming process.  If you have previous dream work experience an initial dream session is necessary for you to establish a "feel' for my way of working and for me to sense which group may be suitable.
