Mini Maestros is the key to the world stage!
A fun music program for pre-school children, Mini Maestros stimulates young minds, builds confidence and fosters a lifelong love of music.
Mini Maestros - the magic of music for every child
Mini Maestros' music programs have delighted and captivated children aged between 6 months and 5 years of age for almost 20 years.
These richly diverse programs explore the wide breadth of musical experience for young children. By introducing elements such as dynamics, harmony, rhythm, beat and tempo, Mini Maestros fosters a deep understanding of music in every child.
Nurturing a lifelong appreciation of music
We take very seriously our role in nurturing children's innate curiosity in music. We are committed to providing fun and stimulating musical experiences through participation in singing, dancing, games and playing percussion instruments.
Your child will participate as a member of the group, helping to develop self-control, discipline and sharing skills.
These musical experiences improve children's listening skills, develop speech and vocabulary and help them to interact positively in social situations.
Getting in tune – music is the key to creativity
Attractive and entertaining props stimulate your child's creativity and imagination in class while music song books and CDs provide ideas for enjoyable follow-up activities at home. And with a maximum of 10 children in each class, every child receives individual attention. Most importantly, our classes are aimed at having fun with your child while they learn.
What to expect in class
Music provides rich and abundant learning opportunities for children. So, the more a child is exposed to music, the more they will learn. Each Mini Maestros class builds on the previous one to develop a strong musical foundation for every child.
Your role
The participation of parents and primary caregivers in Mini Maestros' classes is integral to the success of the program. Since children learn by imitation, they will gain confidence and inspiration from watching you sing and join in the activities. And your role doesn't stop at the end of class. Follow up activities at home are encouraged to help reinforce concepts learned in class.
"My son Jack is thoroughly enjoying Mini Maestros. If all children did Mini Maestros the world would be a better place."
– Russell David, French Horn player with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
First music steps
Babies and toddlers
Mini Maestros' baby and toddler classes introduce young children to music. The program develops the confidence of adults to share a love of music with their child. Songs and activities that can be integrated into daily routines at home are introduced. The best music educators for young children are their primary caregivers. These classes will help you fulfil this important role.
2-year-olds
Our 2-year-old classes focus on developing social skills and confidence as well as introducing new musical elements such as rhythm and beat. Children are encouraged to participate in group activities including games, dancing and playing percussion instruments. We use puppets and various props to stimulate the children's imaginations.
3-year-olds
In 3-year-old classes, children start to recognise musical elements that they have experienced previously. They continue to experiment and become familiar with musical terms through stimulating games and visual reinforcement. These classes are more structured. Children practise new skills such as one-to-one correspondence and left-to-right reading which help prepare them for kinder and school. Children learn to recognise a crochet rest and begin to use a music staff.
4-year-olds
In our 4-year-old classes, children's awareness of musical concepts becomes more evident as they start to apply their new skills to instruments such as chime bars. They begin to learn simple notation and also practise basic sight singing and techniques. Children are regularly provided with opportunities to boost their confidence and independence.
"Mini Maestros is the best 45 minutes I spend with my girls all week."
– Michele Beattie, mum to Jessica (4) and Catelyn (2).
The next steps
Instrumental programs for children aged five to 12*
1. Drawing on the strong foundations of its pre-school programs, Mini Maestros' instrumental program takes your child to the next important stage in their musical development and beyond. The introductory program, running over three terms for 5-year-olds, provides your child with a well-rounded introduction to their first formal instruments: keyboard, guitar and violin.
2. With a solid grounding in musical theory your child is now ready to take the next important leap. By taking advantage of Mini Maestros' private and small group tuition your child can develop and expand their skills on an instrument of their choice. Programs are offered in voice, guitar, violin, flute and piano.
* These programs are not run at all venues.
Enhancing your babies' intelligences through music
Musical interaction between children and their parents is a powerful vehicle for developing imagination and creativity. Mini Maestros aims to help parents strengthen this bond and provide the tools to cultivate an ongoing appreciation of music in their child.
Our program is designed not only to introduce musical concepts, but also to develop young minds. Through the program, children improve their thinking and listening skills. Vocabularies are strengthened, and pre-reading and writing skills are reinforced in the program's later stages. This all helps build confidence and prepare your child for kinder or school.
