Introducing ALTAR, the debut show by emerging queer playwright, Em Tambree.
Two childhood best friends, Dana and Sutton, eventually become strangers who share a secret. One they have kept for over a decade.
Sutton’s life is a testament to her aspirations — the white picket fence, a husband, three children. But amid her well-thought-out life plan was something Sutton could never have accounted for…Dana. Today is Sutton’s wedding day. Dana has been invited but Dan will be in attendance.

Inspired by Em’s lived experience — growing up queer as a member of an Evangelical Church in regional Queensland — ALTAR is a compelling exploration of closeted relationships, self-discovery and the intricacies of human connection.
Transcending the boundaries of traditional theatre, ALTAR is a site-specific performance at the Rosina Courtyard; where many of the Convent tenant Peter Rowland Group’s intimate wedding receptions are hosted. ALTAR stars NIDA graduate Evie Korver (Sutton) and actor and occasional comedian Eddie Pattison (Dan) with direction by Kathryn Yates.

The Queer Divine: A panel on queer faith
The Queer Divine explores the diverse intersectionality of faith and the queer lived experience. With keynote speakers, ALTAR seeks to engage both LGBTIQA+ and religious community about how we can create safer and more inclusive spaces for LGBTIQA+ people with faith.
Em Tambree (they/them) is an emerging director and producer. Em undertook training in Musical Theatre at CentreStage, SHOWFIT (2016) and the Australian Institute of Music (2019). Post graduation, Em Tambree’s exploration of accessibility in the industry led them to develop experience in almost every aspect of stagecraft and theatre-making. Their greatest discovery was their passion for helping their communities to tell their stories. They proudly identify as queer, gender-diverse, neurodivergent, and disabled, and believe each intersectionality plays an integral part in their creative practice. ALTAR is their playwrighting debut with support from Abbotsford Convent and the Midsumma Pathways Program.
